Tutoring Tricks!

Our refugee tutoring service has been expanding, and we have been spending a lot of time crafting age-appropriate lessons. In order to make progress in the learning portion of the sessions, we always try to break the ice with the kids given the significant language barriers and understandable shyness. One of my favorite ways to start sessions is to start telling a story and then go back and forth with the child on what happens next. Its a way to get creative juices flowing and often to get the kids to laugh early in a sessions!
